Skiing the Haute Route

From Chamonix to Zermatt with a smile

The Haute Route, one of the most famous ski tours. We skied from Chamonix to Zermatt, but not the common way, varying the route a bit.

There are many variations to the Haute Route, and we skied one where the beginning did not have all the crowds. Unfortunately as we were getting closer to Zermatt, the refuges were getting more crowded, of course having chosen Easter week-end did no help.

But from day 1 in Chamonix through the last day in Zermatt, the scenery was spectacular. The Haute Route is definitively a classic and something every ski tourer should do

From the first day, skiing down from the Grand Montets, to the last day skiing into Zermatt, we were awed by the incredible scenery, great refugesand of cousre, incredible skiing, either up, or down

Important Google earth info

Some images as you will see are from Google earth, originaly i had some screen copy of the program, but it turns out that this is not in line with their copyrights and fair use, so i had to put in the imbedded maps. Unfortunately, this means that the optimal orientation/point of view is not preserved, as all the names i had added to the cols and intersting spots.

To best enjoy these maps of the Haute Route, you need the Google Earth 3d plugin for your brownser, get it here before you start.

We were a few skiers and a few telemarkers, this is our version of the Haute Route, Enjoy!!!
